Hon’ble Justice Najmi Waziri (Retd.)
- Keynote Speaker

Former Judge (Delhi High Court)

In the grand tapestry of Delhi’s legal and cultural landscape, there are few names that evoke as much quiet reverence as Justice Najmi Waziri. To call him a judge is to only skim the surface; his work has been less about verdicts and more about shaping narratives of justice, of stewardship, of the delicate balance between human progress and the world we inherit.

With a mind sharpened by philosophy and refined by the study of international law, Justice Waziri entered the legal corridors not as a crusader but as a listener someone who sought harmony where others saw only conflict. When he rose to the bench of the Delhi High Court, his judgments bore the mark of empathy dressed in reason, blending the precision of law with the sensibilities of a poet.

It was here that he came to be known, almost affectionately, as the “Green Judge.” Through his vision, barren lands were reborn, thousands of trees were planted, and forgotten spaces began breathing again.

For him, environmental justice was never a footnote – it was a promise to the future.

Even after stepping away from the bench, his journey carried forward with the same quiet determination. Entrusted with guiding committees that protect Delhi’s “deemed forests” and restoring balance within key

institutions, his leadership continues to transcend titles and tenures. Justice Waziri belongs to that rare league of jurists whose influence lingers long after the gavel falls. His legacy is not written in stone or statute but in living things in the shade of the trees he fought for, the institutions he steadied, and the values he continues to uphold.
